What is Trigger Finger?
Trigger finger is a thickening and inflammation of tendons on the palm side of the hand or fingers. The tendons in your hands are meant to glide with ease, so when they become inflamed, this poses difficulty in their glide – thus resulting in impaired movement. If you develop trigger finger, it can make it difficult to perform daily tasks, as your fingers will seem locked in a bent position and snaps when it is releases.
What to expect during treatment:
At Orthopedic Sports Therapy, we create a custom treatment plan specifically for your needs, aimed at articulating and mobilizing the affected finger(s) or thumb. Treatment for trigger finger at Orthopedic Sports Therapy usually includes deep soft tissue & trigger point mobilization, dry needling, specific hand exercises, night splinting if needed and education on preventing re-injury. Our hand therapy treatments serve several functions and benefits, such as managing pain and promoting healing.
Our physical therapists will conduct a physical evaluation to examine the current levels of mobility in your hand/fingers and determine what treatment will be best for you.
